Summer 2015 Technology Projects Update

Lake in summer

The major technology projects have been proposed for Summer 2015.

A critical consideration is that at least two IT staff members will be fully dedicated to the College’s website redesign project this summer.

IT is dedicated to minimizing disruption and providing good communication with the Roanoke College community in advance and throughout these projects:

Second Internet Service (ISP) Provider
Provides redundant internet connection and doubles the speed and bandwidth for students and the rest of the campus community.

Wifi Upgrade
Redesign, increase and improve campus wifi to better utilize existing wireless network to meet increased student demands due to increasing number of devices.

Network Access Control (NAC)
Information security software that follows the auditors’ recommendation that we know who is using Roanoke’s network at all times. IT staff will do an information security related project every year to protect Roanoke as much as possible from information security threats in the world.

Annual Cyclical Replacement Upgrades
Planned incremental replacements that upgrade small amounts of technology infrastructure to keep our technology as new as possible in order to avoid campus-wide disruption. These include things like network equipment in buildings, classroom technology, and cables.
